WELCOME TO LOGIC! (Sent via email)
Dear Logic Parents and Students,
I would like to introduce myself and welcome you to Introductory Logic for the 2023-2024 school year. As a returning tutor here at PEP, I continue to feel honored to be part of this wonderful homeschool program and look forward to meeting each of you in person. As a mother of six children, I understand that partnering with parents in training their children to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength is a high calling, and certainly one that we at PEP do not take lightly. I am excited about the opportunity to participate in encouraging each student to grow into a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, the Author of all wisdom and the Source of all knowledge and understanding.
Our study of logic this year will supply a foundational ingredient in your commitment to provide your student with a well-rounded, Christ-centered education. In his article entitled “Why Study Logic”, author Harvey Bluedorn states, “Perhaps the most important thing to give your child to prepare him to confront this world is a firm grasp of logical thinking skills. Without this refined skill — the ability to reason correctly — his thinking is not firmly anchored, but is ‘tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine.’ Children who can logically understand what they believe will hold fast to the truth and will be able to defend it throughout their lives.” Our study of logic will help equip your student with the skill of proper reasoning which he/she will use for the rest of his life.
Please take a moment to read over the class syllabus, which includes a list of the supplies that students will need to bring to class each day. You will also want to take a look at our Pacing Guide with a list of the topics we will cover in the first and second quarter. It may be necessary to make some adjustments to the schedule along the way, but I will be sure to update you regarding any changes that are made. Prior to the first day of class, please download and print a copy of both the syllabus and the Pacing Guide for your student to bring to school. I suggest that each student keep a current copy in his binder, as we will discuss each week’s schedule and assignments. All assignments, project information, and other additional resources can always be found here on weebly. I would also like to encourage parents to check student’s grades regularly. I will post grades as soon as possible so that parents can stay informed of the student’s progress, as well as be aware of any missing assignments.
.
Please know that I value your input and communication as a parent and hope that you will feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I can be reached by phone at (904) 962-2844 or by e-mail at dfholland58@gmail.com.
Again, thank you for entrusting me with the privilege of teaching your student. I am looking forward to the upcoming school year and anticipate much joy and growth ahead!
In Christ,
Dabney Holland
