WELCOME TO LATIN 1! (Sent via email)
Dear Latin I Parents and Students,
I would like to introduce myself and welcome you to Latin I for the 2023-2024 school year. As a returning tutor here at PEP, I continue to feel honored to be part of this wonderful homeschool program and look forward to meeting each of you in person. As a mother of six children, I understand that partnering with parents in training their children to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength is a high calling, and certainly one that we at PEP do not take lightly. I am excited about the opportunity to participate in encouraging each student to grow into a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, the Author of all wisdom and the Source of all knowledge and understanding.
Our study of Latin will supply a foundational ingredient in your commitment to provide your student with a classical, Christ-centered education. The well-known English writer G.K. Chesterton pronounced, “Latin is not dead. It is immortal.” Latin continues to be the language of law, politics, theology, and sciences, and provides the root words for new terms in science and technology. Over the course of this year, your Latin student will not only grow in his/her understanding of English grammar and in his ability to determine the meaning of new English vocabulary words he encounters but will also be building a solid foundation upon which to learn other languages in the future. Additionally, the rigor of Latin will help equip your student with the skill of thinking systematically which will be of great value for the rest of his life. Indeed, it seems there are an endless number of benefits of studying this beautiful language.
Please read the course syllabus which contains information about what to bring on the first day of class. You will also want to take a look at the Pacing Guide (located under the Assignments tab) which will be our roadmap for the first nine weeks of our course. Throughout the year you may find all assignments, course information, and other additional resources here on weebly. I would like to encourage you to check your student’s grades regularly. I will post the grades as soon as possible so that you are able to stay informed of your student’s progress, as well as be aware of any missing assignments.
.
Please know that I value your input and communication as a parent and hope that you will feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I can be reached by phone at (904) 962-2844 or by e-mail at dfholland58@gmail.com.
Again, thank you for entrusting me with the privilege of teaching your student. I am looking forward to the upcoming school year and anticipate much joy and growth ahead!
In Christ,
Dabney Holland
